CVT belt. Mine showed same symptoms. The rev limiter is probably fine, it's that with a worn belt you're hitting the RPM limit at a lower speed (mph). Change it before it breaks or risk damaging the variator, rollers, and clutch. Probably should change the rollers too, mine had terrible flat spots from wear.
