If you measure from the outer edge of the watch instead of just the screen, the overall bezel of e.g. Garmin Fenix 6/7s or Coros Pace isn’t actually that much smaller. 42mm width for Garmin/Coros, 43mm for the S9P(P), with exactly the same display size, so only 0.5mm extra on each side of the display.
