If your Mazda’s screen is not working, the first thing you can try is rebooting the infotainment system. To do this, simply turn off your car and let it sit for a few minutes. Then, turn the car back on to see if the screen starts functioning properly.
Press Off to turn touch screen display Off. Touch screen display can be turned on by pressing any button on the commander. Select System to adjust touch screen display according to time of day. Press Day, for daytime mode. Press Night, for night mode. Press Auto to let screen automatically switch according to headlight illumination conditions.

For the first time in a while, I decided to use the touch screen to dial the number. In CarPlay and in the Mazda Connect screens, the touch screen did not work at all. I tried touching several different buttons on the screen and none responded. I gave up and used the knob to dial the number. After the call, the touch screen began responding again.
